2017 has seen LIVE video become one of the biggest social media trends, reshaping the way people communicate and interact online. Live streaming now plays a major role in how brands reach audiences, build trust and share real-time experiences.
Facebook Live videos are watched three times longer than pre-recorded videos, proving how powerful real-time content can be. And it’s not just Facebook. In the fourth quarter of 2016, Twitter streamed more than 600 hours of live video — 10% entertainment, 38% news and politics, and 52% sport.
How You Can Use Live Streaming to Reach Your Audience
Live streaming is one of the most compelling ways to create authenticity and build trust. There are countless ways to use it effectively, such as:
A behind-the-scenes tour of your office or production facility
A live Q&A with your team
An interview hosted by an industry influencer
A live product launch with real-time audience reactions
Working with influencers is especially effective, giving fans a new, interactive way to be part of your event from anywhere. And because live streams appear at the top of social feeds, users receive 200% more notifications for live content compared to standard posts.
Live Streaming for Business
Live streaming isn’t just for public events. It can also unite an organisation internally:
Connect remote offices with head office
Include home-working staff in conferences and updates
Encourage interaction through private chat rooms
Let employees ask real-time questions throughout the broadcast
It’s a powerful way to strengthen communication, build unity and share messages clearly across a team.

What a season. Five shows, around 10,000 spectators at each, more than 2km of cabling, 15 cameras, two robotic cameras, a 25m² screen, a four-person crew and a musical director. The Battle Proms is an incredible production — and this year was our first time delivering it.
Every event brings its own technical challenges, and Battle Proms was no exception. The scale alone meant long cable runs, remote camera positions and, in one case, a lake directly in our path.
Overcoming Technical Challenges (Including a Lake)
At Ragley Hall, we needed to get two fixed cameras positioned across the water to capture the spectacular field of 200 cannons. The solution? Running 1.5km of fibre through the lake to connect both sides. Fortunately, we had a boat on hand — nobody was volunteering for a swim. (Note to self: hire a braver crew.)
Capturing the Orchestra Up Close
The orchestra brought a completely different challenge. We wanted audiences to see and feel the performance from a new perspective — close, intimate, and inside the music.
By placing HD mini-cams among the music stands, we created a viewpoint that isn’t possible from the audience area, and it also meant fewer operators on stage. But great visuals rely on more than camera placement. That’s why our musical director, Cayenna, reads the score in real time, guiding our vision director to capture the right musician at the right moment. The result is a seamless production where the visuals hit the musical cues perfectly — not reactively, but intentionally.
Maximising Efficiency With a Minimal Crew
As a Social Enterprise committed to reducing our environmental impact, we always work with the leanest crew possible. For Battle Proms, that meant two extremely busy camera operators, each responsible for multiple positions over the seven-hour shows.
Pre-deployed cable runs allowed the operators to move quickly between locations as the event unfolded, ensuring we always captured the strongest angles without compromising safety, quality or storytelling.
The Dramatic Finale
And of course — the evening gun salute. The First World War 18-pounder cannon catches even the most seasoned cameraman off-guard every time. John and his gun crew were brilliant throughout the season, helping us plan safe shot positions while still pushing for new, dynamic angles.
It’s been a fantastic first season working with the Battle Proms team, and we’re already looking forward to the next.

James & The Giant Peach – Giant Screen Broadcasts for The City of the Unexpected
What a challenge — and what an incredible event to be part of. For The City of the Unexpected, staged by National Theatre Wales, Bubble Production delivered a truly giant-scale broadcast: six enormous screens across Cardiff, a live moving procession, three OB trucks, two jib cranes, six static cameras, three roaming cameras, satellite links, dozens of crew, and miles upon miles of fibre and HD-SDI cable.
The production was epic. But the biggest challenge wasn’t scale — it was mobility.
Relaying the Moving Procession Live Across Cardiff
Our main task was to capture the street procession and feed it live to the central OB unit, where it could then be distributed to screens around Cardiff Castle and the wider city centre.
The screens themselves were easy — each received the feed from our server via hard-wired internet connections. The real test was the procession.
Enter ‘The BEAST’ — Our Mobile Vision Mixing Buggy
To keep the live mix moving with the performance, we built a mobile solution affectionately named The BEAST. From the back of our buggy:
One camera was hard-wired
Two additional cameras operated via short-range RF links
Each link normally handles around 600m — but not today
With over 35,000 spectators gathered around the castle alone, RF interference was severe. Our radio-linked cameras, normally reliable over long distances, were restricted to about 30 metres due to the sheer volume of mobile devices in the area.
Bonded 4G Under Pressure
The next challenge: sending the mixed program feed from the buggy back to the castle. Bonded 4G was the only viable option — but with tens of thousands of phones competing for signal, would it work?
Thanks to smart engineering, clever kit, and some carefully developed IP workflows, we found a workaround. Yes, a few minor blips appeared — momentary flash frames — but no worse than what major broadcasters were experiencing using similar systems on the day. In fact, some big names struggled more than we did.
We had to transmit those images back up to the castle. The only cost effective way was going to be bonded 4g. Enter problem number 2… With the huge crowds and just about everyone having a phonein their pocket, was it going to work? Due to some clever bits and bobs of kit, our IP and a lot of research we found a work-around. Yes the picture blipped a few times but these were momentary flash frames, no worse than any other major event. We did see off the competition though, as we were aware that some of the major broadcasters were having problem with their bonded LIVE systems.
A Giant Production for a Giant Story
Despite the challenges, the final result was a massive success — a city-wide live broadcast for a spectacular theatrical event. From giant screens to mobile vision mixing, it was a production of epic scale and a reminder of what’s possible with the right team, technology and planning.
Could we do it again? Absolutely — if your project demands something ambitious, give us a call.
As an experienced Facebook Live provider, we understand the power of real-time broadcasting and the impact it can have on audience engagement.
According to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, “Live content is watched three times longer and receives ten times more comments than regular Facebook videos.” That level of interaction is why brands are turning to live video in record numbers.
We’ve seen it first-hand. Our live broadcast for New Balance attracted more than 85,000 viewers, while our coverage of AX Arenacross at the Goodwood Festival of Speed dramatically expanded the local audience. And the benefits don’t end when the broadcast finishes — once viewers are engaged with your channel, they stay longer, convert more easily and are more likely to return.

Choosing the Right Production Company for Your Conference or Live Webinar
Before you select a production company to film your conference or deliver your live webinar, you need to know they have the experience, equipment and understanding to get it right. Here’s what to look for — and how Bubble Production delivers on all of it.
Do They Have the Right Background?
With more than twenty-five years in news and current affairs, we’re used to working in fast-moving, high-pressure environments. Our crews, editors and technical teams are trained to handle almost any situation and communicate your message clearly to a wide range of audiences.
Whether you need a live stream, a recorded conference, or a complete event TV channel, we have the skills, passion and technology to make it happen — reliably and professionally.
Can They Give You the Advice You Need?
A great production partner doesn’t just turn up with cameras — they help you shape the right solution.
We work as an extension of your team, challenging ideas where needed and helping you choose the right platform, format and delivery method. Whether you require secure, password-protected access or want to involve social media, we’ll guide you through the benefits and limitations of each option to create a bespoke plan for your event.
Do They Have the Equipment to Do the Job?
We own a large inventory of professional broadcast equipment, including:
Cameras and edit suites
Portable Production Units (PPUs)
Satellite trucks and uplinks
Multi-camera rigs for plenaries and breakout rooms
Because we own our kit, we respond faster and aren’t dependent on hire companies. We can live-stream your main plenary while simultaneously streaming multiple breakout rooms — effectively turning your conference into a fully fledged multi-channel TV network.
Have You Briefed Them Properly?
A good brief can make or break a production. We encourage clients to think from their audience’s perspective:
What do they need to see?
What do you want them to understand?
These aren’t always the same — and bridging that gap is where a great production partner adds value. We work collaboratively, guiding you to make the most of your time with your audience while staying aligned with your goals.
What’s Included in the Quote?
We believe in clear, honest pricing. Our quotes include everything you need, with no hidden extras — unless the brief changes. Transparency helps everyone plan confidently.
If you’re planning a conference, webinar or live event, give Bubble Production a call or drop us an email to discuss your needs.
YouTube Live Streaming: Latest Updates and What They Mean for Your Events
YouTube has released a new round of updates to its Live Streaming platform, aimed at improving performance and ease of use. The biggest and most exciting change is a major reduction in latency — and this has real benefits for live events.
What Lower Latency Means
Traditionally, YouTube Live delivered streams via global content delivery networks, causing a delay of around 45 seconds between the event happening and the viewer seeing it. For most online audiences this wasn’t a problem, but for sporting events or interactive broadcasts, that delay could be noticeable.
With the latest update, latency can now be reduced to as little as 2–3 seconds.
Why This Matters for Your Live Streams
Lower latency brings a huge benefit for clients who rely on YouTube’s live chat. Near-real-time streaming now makes Q&A sessions faster, smoother and much more natural — ideal for:
Conferences
Webinars
Sports
Interactive broadcasts
Your audience can now respond almost instantly as your event unfolds.
What’s the Catch?
There is one trade-off. When using ultra-low latency, you lose the live DVR (rewind) function. Late viewers won’t be able to skip back to the start of the stream — although the event is still fully recorded for upload and playback after the broadcast.
What’s Next?
Open-platform streaming continues to evolve quickly. YouTube has stepped up — now we wait to see how Facebook responds with its next update.
If you’d like these updates explained in plain English, or want help choosing the best platform settings for your event, give us a call — we’re always happy to translate the geek speak.
